Abstract
Data center leases end, hardware refreshes come due, and Oracle and SQL Server licensing keeps climbing. Moving to AWS is the easy decision. Doing it without downtime, without surprise application breakage, and without a different tool for every engine is the hard part.
HexaRocket covers both paths. Same engine, where the platform changes but the engine does not:
| Source | Target on AWS |
|---|---|
| Oracle on any platform | Oracle Database@AWS, Amazon RDS for Oracle |
| SQL Server on premise, Azure, or Google Cloud | Amazon RDS for SQL Server |
| PostgreSQL on any platform | Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL |
| MySQL on any platform | Amazon RDS for MySQL, Aurora MySQL |
Cross engine, where you modernize off a commercial engine at the same time:
| Source | Target on AWS |
|---|---|
| Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, DB2, Sybase ASE | Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, Aurora DSQL |
We start with assessment. DMAT reads the database and the applications on top of it, in any language, and returns:
- A compatibility matrix, covering only the objects your applications actually use.
- A SQL rewrite list, with the exact file and line for every statement that needs a change.
- An application code change report across every application on that database.
- An effort estimate for the manual work left after HexaRocket's automatic conversion. This is the number that gets a migration approved.
Then the live demo of HexaRocket: schema conversion, data migration, CDC keeping the target in sync while the source stays live, a zero downtime cutover, and a rollback through reverse replication. Validation runs at every stage, not just at the end.
We finish with what surrounds the pipeline and decides whether a program survives production: transformations applied during the move, observability, error control with skip and retry, and role based user management. We will be direct about where this goes beyond AWS DMS, running on real databases rather than slides.
- Are you in the process of a Data center exit, or implemnting a Hybrid cloud strategy?
- Are you migrating your workloads to AWS?
- Are you planning to reduce or eliminate your commercial database license cost by modernizing workloads on AWS?
If your answer is yes for at least one of the above questions, this Webinar is for you.
